Police uncover meth, mandrax and ammunition in Margate

A domestic threat complaint led Saps Margate to a suspected drug stash in Masinenge Informal Settlement, where drugs, ammunition and suspected stolen property were seized.

Members of Saps Margate recently responded to a scene at Wingate Avenue, where they found a woman who had allegedly been threatened by her boyfriend at Masinenge Informal Settlement.

Police proceeded to the man’s residence, where a search was conducted in his presence.

About 25 small bags of crystal meth, nine mandrax tablets and four live rounds of ammunition were recovered, along with what appeared to be a firearm. An array of property, including power tools, a laptop and a chainsaw, were also found in the room.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the firearm was a gas gun.

The 27-year-old man was arrested for possession of drugs, possession of suspected stolen property and possession of unlicensed ammunition. He was taken into police custody.

The matter was postponed after he appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court.
