Farm worker shot dead in Betania

Police are investigating.

Bekezela ‘Matile’ Zakuza (44) was found dead with a gunshot wound on a farm in Msikaba in Betania.
It is believed that he was opening a gate for deliveries on May 25 at about 05:30 when the incident happened.

Ugu District Saps Communications confirmed the incident and said preliminary investigations revealed that the man (Zakuza) had sustained a gunshot wound to the upper body.

“It is alleged that other farm workers heard the sound of a gunshot and discovered his body. The body was removed by personnel from Port Shepstone Forensic Pathology Services for a post-mortem examination and further police investigation.”

A case of murder has been opened for investigation at Saps Port Shepstone.

The incident has shocked the community of Betania.

Some of the farm workers said that they heard the gunshot, but did not think it was on the farm.

Zakuza’s family believes the shooting is work-related because he was a foreman.

Speaking on behalf of the family, Thobile Gumede said no-one is left in their family home anymore because Zakuza was the only one who lived there.

A tearful Gumede said another brother was stabbed to death recently and the family is still grieving, and now another murder has occurred.
