Free water safety lessons

The coaches will focus on water awareness, safety and learning to swim. All ages are welcome.

Ugu Aquatics is hosting a water safety programme at the St Mike’s beach tidal pool free of charge, on January 4 and 5.
Times will be from 08:30 to 11:30.

The coaches will focus on water awareness, safety and learning to swim. All ages are welcome.
Ugu Aquatics has already hosted water safety sessions, these taking place from December 21 to 23.

During this time coaches were able to teach a large number of children and adults, despite the (at times) miserable weather.

The focus was on water safety in and around a pool, as well as at rivers, dams and the beach.
Lessons started with an introduction to safety, followed by lessons on how to correctly enter the pool.

The majority of those in attendance could not swim and were very happy to receive a ‘learn to swim’ lesson absolutely free.

Ugu Aquatics thanked all the Ugu swim coaches involved at the Marburg public swimming pool during this outreach.

They did a sterling job, with their love for water and teaching evident.

RULES TO KEEP IN MIND
1. Remember your sun screen, hat and a bottle of water.
2. Know your limits.
3. Never swim alone. A responsible, sober adult should be looking out.
4. Swim between the flags.
5. Listen to the lifeguards.
6. Never swim in the lagoons or river mouths.
7. If you get stuck in a rip current, relax. Do not try to swim back to the beach. Try to float on your back and wave for help or else swim parallel to the beach until you are out of the rip, then return.
