Leonie Flanagan said she stumbled on a Southern African python enjoying one of her fully grown geese in the shallow water of their farm’s dam.
“The snake seemed to be just under four metres long. It took three hours before the python started to ingest the goose and then another two hours to fully consume it,” she said.

Leonie said they haven’t seen one on the farm for more than a decade.
Pythons, like some other reptiles, are protected species in South Africa due to their ecological importance.
Interestingly, pythons are ambush predators and after grabbing their prey using their teeth, they will suffocate it by wrapping themselves around it and constricting their muscles until it can’t breathe.
