Umdoni beefs up service delivery

Two new skip loaders have been acquired.

Umdoni Local Municipality has been working hard to rebuild its relationship with the community.

Since Cogta’s intervention a month ago, numerous changes have been made in terms of service delivery and the appointment of senior management.

A media briefing was held on Tuesday morning this week. It was announced that the municipality will move on from service delivery disruptions with issues now being decisively dealt with and that Umdoni will soon reap the fruits of its hard work.

With regard to senior management positions, the new acting general manager for community services is Bongani Ntsebeshe, the acting CFO is Thando Mketsu, and the acting general manager for corporate services is Khongi Molohlanye. The acting municipal manager is Nhlakanipho Geoffery Khumalo.

The mayor, Mbali Cele-Luthuli, said that they are supported by their academic qualifications and wished them well.

Umdoni has been busy with numerous service delivery projects, and various communities have noticed handovers of state-of-the-art facilities. These include road rehabilitation and construction projects, streetlight maintenance, the opening of KwaMpondo sports field in Ward 1, Mandlalathi Community Hall, and more.

In an effort to beef up waste collection services, two new skip loaders have been acquired. Cele-Luthuli was joined by colleagues at a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

According to Khumalo, these new trucks have advanced technologies, and their drivers have been trained to operate them.

In terms of the fast-approaching festive season, Umdoni strives to make the town a safe and secure tourist attraction.

Also, Cele-Luthuli said that she is proud that Pennington Beach is recognised as a Blue Flag beach this year, with Scottburgh and Rocky Bay as pilot Blue Flag beaches.

The focus will be on cleaning the towns and beaches, promoting local events for a bumper festive period, and working closely with law enforcement, particularly Saps.

The municipality has also noted the non-operational traffic lights in Scottburgh and Park Rynie and plans to fix them.

“As council, we remain committed to working hand in glove with management to ensure that Umdoni once again becomes the reputable institution that services its communities with honour, transparency and effectiveness,” said Cele-Luthuli.
