Twinning association celebrates milestone

The function was well attended, Ezwelihle Primary and Marburg Primary schools entertained the audience with cultural performances.

The Port Shepstone Twinning Association celebrated its 30th anniversary at the Port Shepstone Senior Primary School hall last Saturday.

It was a get-together to mark the twinning and collaboration between Oskarshamn, Sweden and Port Shepstone, South Africa.

At the get together are (from left) Themba Zondi, Tormod Nesset and Ravi Pillay.

It was also to celebrate years of people-to-people relations spanning all fields of society, education, healthcare, culture, sports, business and more, with a unique exchange of ideas that has enriched both countries.

Swedish ambassador Håkan Juholt gave a keynote speech, and Lillemor Nesset, who was part of the delegation in 1994 and motivated the idea of establishing an NGO, also attended.

Tormod Nesset, whose vision was to see a united society contributing to the development and promotion of social cohesion, was also present.

The association’s Gulshera Khan said everyone spoke of a united South Africa irrespective of race and creed and a country free of corruption.

“This is our twinning, a recipe for the world and most unique. We started on a strong foundation, and over the years, about 40 people who worked with us have since died. They were all acknowledged by the chairperson.”

Khan also acknowledged the relationship maintained with their international friends and ambassadors.

She said they have reached the highest level of national and international trainers in the Time Travel method to learn from the past to make it better for the future.

The association pioneered the Time Travel Programme, supporting school programmes, creating job opportunities, and researching and recording local histories.
