Police have confirmed the drowning of an eight-year-old boy at a Scottburgh hotel swimming pool on November 9.
It is believed that a doctor who was in the hotel at the time attempted to assist the child, but paramedics arrived on the scene and declared the child dead.
An inquest was opened for investigation at Scottburgh Saps.
The public is urged to be cautious when in and around water.
They are also reminded that swimming aids such as water wings or noodles are fun toys for children, but they should never be used instead of approved flotation devices; and to never leave a young child unattended near water and/or never make a child responsible for another child – not even for five minutes.
Teach children to always ask permission to go near water.
