Special needs learners educated on rights

Everyone shared motivational messages and emphasised how children's rights should always be protected.

Children from Schola Amoris School in Umzinto were educated about their rights and encouraged to report any incidents of abuse during a Disability Rights Awareness Campaign last week.

This campaign was made possible by Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) together with other stakeholders under the Ugu District’s Operation Sukuma Sakhe.

“We also created awareness on the prevention of food-borne diseases and the hygienic handling of food,” explained Khanyiso Seyisi of GCIS KZN.

Some of the stakeholders present included Ugu’s special programmes office, represented by manager Dudu Khowa, and officers Lerato Sihlali and Thofi Khumalo.

Ugu District Disability Forum was represented by Sandile Mnganga, and Lifeline Durban was represented by Nonkululeko Ntaka and Asiphe Sosibo.

Thanda organisation’s Londiwe Mnguni was also present.

Everyone shared motivational messages and emphasised how children’s rights should always be protected.

Sign language interpreter Thobeka Cele also ensured that the messages shared were understood by each learner in attendance.

Learners provided some great entertainment with their ballroom and Zulu dances.
