The case is set down for bail application later this month.

Darren Govender (37) appeared briefly in the Port Shepstone District Court earlier today (February 14).

Govender, who was an assistant superintendent law enforcement officer for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, faces three charges: premeditated murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and reckless use of a firearm in public.

He handed himself over to police on Wednesday night after the incident in which businessman Brad Hughes (54) was shot and killed at a pub in Shelly Beach.
