Baby trafficked in Margate

Four people appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate's Court last Wednesday.

Margate detectives’ quick intervention saved the life of a baby girl, only three days old recently.

Warrant Officers Michelle van Niekerk and Bridget Clifton of Margate Detective Service were instrumental in the arrest of four people from Margate who allegedly tried to sell the baby for R140 000 to a potential buyer.

Clifton helped Van Niekerk recover the baby and arrest the sellers of the child, aged 39 and 40, on April 14.

The child’s mother (30) and her partner (41) were arrested later that same week.

All four appeared in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court on charges of human trafficking last Wednesday.

They will remain behind bars until their bail application, which is set down for later this month.
