At the first leg of the series on Sunday, May 11 – more than 100 walkers braved the wind and covered a 5.8km stretch of coastline from Oslo Beach to Shelly Beach.

Bright and early walkers starting off at Oslo Beach.

Organised by the Mzimkhulu Honorary Officers, the series of walks encourages the public to become more aware of the coastline.

Honorary Officer Maxine Willemse said the challenge was to raise awareness on the coastline, beach clean-up campaigns, and also introduce ‘did you know about our area’.

“The wind was not kind to our walkers, and the roughly 5.8km felt longer for most. The sand was soft and the Shoreline gradient a challenge, but all 101 walkers completed the walk and expressed the beauty of our coastline, which cannot be seen or experienced from the road,” said Willemse.

To raise funds, National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) Shelly Beach sold delicious breakfast buns at the finish line.
