PUB SHOOTING: Darren Govender case postponed to 2026

The case involves the fatal shooting of a Shelly Beach businessman.

Murder accused Darren Govender appeared briefly in the Port Shepstone Regional Court on Tuesday this week.

The matter was postponed to January 27, 2026, for legal consultation with his defence team.

On February 12, Govender handed himself over to police after the fatal shooting of businessman Brad Hughes (54) at a pub in Shelly Beach.

Govender is an assistant superintendent law enforcement officer for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality.

He pleaded not guilty in March this year to a schedule six charge of premeditated murder, assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm and reckless use of a firearm in public.

He pleaded not guilty to the charges leveled against him. He is out on bail of R15 000.
