Performers dazzle at colourful Port Shepstone Diwali show

Ten cultural associations took part in singing, dance, sketches, talks and musical items.

The Port Shepstone Hindu Cultural Federation (PSHCF) held its 2025 Diwali celebrations last Saturday, with a float parade in the morning from Dick King parking lot, which was followed by the main show at the Port Shepstone Andhra Hall.

Eight affiliates with colourful floats in a festive spirit made their way through the streets of Port Shepstone CBD guided by Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Protection Services and Saps. Dance performances at various points were were appreciated by the public.

The parade concluded at St Martin de Porres School grounds where lunch was served.
The hall was full to capacity with overflow on the veranda.

All 10 cultural associations affiliated to PSHCF took part in singing, dance, sketches, talks and musical items.
“The overall performances were of a high quality from all our participants. Most notable and encouraging was the involvement of our youth,” said chairperson of PSHCF, DD Naidoo.

“The Consul General of India in Durban, Lalitha Ravichandra, was amazed by the unity and vibrancy of the Hindu community in Port Shepstone and offered scholarships to our youth to study in India,” said Naidoo.
This year PSHCF had support from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture as well as local businesses and the community.

The final showpiece was by Kilona Showband. Prizes were handed out and supper was served to all.
“The feedback from the community was phenomenal and we invite all interested parties to join the PSHCF as we have bigger plans for next year,” said Naidoo.
