Mzamba steri-drive honours abandoned pup
Through compassion and action, Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative and its volunteers are determined to turn one pup’s tragic end into a new beginning for many others.
A heart breaking discovery along a roadside near Mzamba has inspired a life-changing initiative for animals in the area.
A passer-by found a starving puppy, unable to use its hind legs, and took it to Port Edward Veterinary Clinic. Sadly, help arrived too late for the little one.
According to Transkei Animal Welfare Initiative (TAWI), this is not an isolated case. Several neglected and abandoned animals have been brought in from the same area this year.
“This poor pup didn’t make it, but his story can inspire change,” said Linda Dunn Livesey of TAWI.
“We’re honouring him by sterilising as many animals as we can in Mzamba.”
This weekend, TAWI will conduct a mass sterilisation campaign in Mzamba – the first-of-its-kind for the area.
Thirty dogs and cats have already been booked in for the procedure.
The organisation hopes that this effort will help reduce the growing number of unwanted and suffering animals in the region.
If anyone would like to sponsor a dog with de-wormer, food or a blanket, it would make a real difference, contact Linda on 082 7705579.
