IFP guns for Ward 13 in by-election in Umzumbe

Voters will cast their votes on February 11.

The IFP in the Umzumbe sub-region is gunning for Ward 13 in an upcoming by-election.

That is what the party’s provincial chairperson, Thami Ntuli, told the media during his door-to-door campaign recently. Ntuli’s visit was part of an ongoing campaign leading to the by-election, billed for February 11.

The by-election comes after IFP councillor, Siyabonga Doncabe, dumped the party late last year.

After engaging with the community, Ntuli, also mentioned that the ward needs basic services such as water, access to roads, electricity, as well as houses, with some people having registered for RDP houses ages ago.

“Unfortunately there is a by-election, where the IFP must demonstrate its strength and declare (a win) in this area. In the south of KwaZulu-Natal, the IFP has been quite thin in terms of support. We once governed these municipalities, now we don’t have a single municipality that we govern as the IFP, except Umzumbe, where we co-govern with the ANC.”

He further said: “Our intention now is to ensure we use this (ward) as the base to prepare for the elections, to regain the ground in the southern part of the province.”
