Woman survives 100m plunge in Oribi Gorge

Emergency responders commended the survivor’s determination.

A woman driver is in serious condition after her vehicle suffered a blowout and plunged about 100m down a cliffside in Oribi Gorge on Monday.

In a remarkable act of endurance, the injured driver managed to kick out a window and climb the steep embankment back up to the road, where she was discovered by a patrolling Saps vehicle.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance Service responded to the incident, which occurred about 5km from the N2 turn-off along Oribi Gorge road.

Paramedics stabilised the woman at the scene, where she was believed to have sustained multiple fractures.

Emergency responders commended the survivor’s determination, as well as the swift action of the Saps members who alerted medical services.
