March and March comes to KwaNzimakwe: Illegal foreigners warned
The march started from KwaBhambuli and finished at the KwaNzimakwe Tribal Court.
The March and March movement took to the streets of KwaNzimakwe near Port Edward earlier.
This was the second such march this week after one in Port Shepstone on Monday, which started in Marburg and ended in the CBD.
The movement is petitioning against the presence of foreigners being in South Africa illegally.
Sabelo Cele, the chairperson of March and March on the South Coast, explained that the area chief had asked them to come and spread the message in KwaNzimakwe.
The message is clear: they want all illegal foreign nationals to leave the area.
Cele said he has noticed that people are afraid that violence may erupt, but has consistently given reassurance that these are peaceful marches.
Today’s march started from KwaBhambuli and finished at the KwaNzimakwe Tribal Court.
“Our message is still the same; we’re saying ‘abahambe’, especially in the rural areas.”
Cele said that in rural areas the economy had never been good, but having illegal foreigners made things worse. He said locals wanted to take back control of the economy in their areas.
He said it was not only a KZN issue, but widespread in rural areas across South Africa.
