Art-in-the-Park in Uvongo proves to be ‘tree-mendous’
There was a wonderful exhibition of paintings.
The eagerly anticipated Art-in-the-Park was held (finally) on the grassy patch adjacent to the traffic lights in Uvongo on September 12.
Numerous artists showcased their paintings of trees according to the theme ‘Trees in the Park’.
With Arbor Week celebrations in mind, the artists put together a wonderful array of more than 50 paintings.
Visitors were invited to vote for their favourite painting.
There were many high-quality, exquisite fine art paintings, but it was the minimalist black-and-white artwork by Uvongo artist Ken Etberg that took the honours – a tongue-in-cheek parody on the real purpose of trees, as Ken’s bull terrier Buddy would define it.
Convener Johann du Toit said the trees planted in the park during Arbor Week are sure to provide much needed shade and help to rid the drab look of the park, especially in the long run.
“With more welcome donations of trees from local tree enthusiast Graham McGill, the park setting is already taking shape,” he said.
