Moot Court competition final for Sheppie High’s Tejal and Tsitsi

Tejal and Tsitsi will compete with learners from across South Africa in this prestigious competition.

Port Shepstone High School is incredibly proud of its dedicated learners who were awarded a gold medal at the recent Moot Court Oral Round, held at the Durban Magistrate’s Court last weekend.

In round one, the learners were given a set of hypothetical facts and were required to prepare two court cases, in the form of essays – one for the applicants and one for the respondents.

The essays, prepared by Tsitsi Mahwire and Tejal Ramnarain (assisted by a phenomenal research team), made the KZN Top 10 and hence, were invited to Round 2: the oral round.

The two grade 11 participants, both aspiring lawyers, had a jam-packed and informative time for the duration of their three-day trip to Durban.

This included two days of rigorous legal training with the Human Rights Commission, in preparation for their day in court.

Port Shepstone High is one of four schools that will represent the province at the National Moot Court Competition, to be held at the Constitutional Court in Pretoria during the October vacation.

Moot Court is a simulated court environment, organised by The Department of Basic Education, Department of Justice and the Human Rights Commission.

Tejal and Tsitsi will compete with learners from across South Africa in this prestigious competition.
