DEAR Editor,-
In reply to the comment in the sms column last week, I would like to make it quite clear that I am the scribe for Hibiscus Kennel Club and therefore report on the achievements of members of the club and their dogs, and not on members of other groups or dog handlers in the rest of South Africa.
This person is comparing apples to oranges when comparing the achievements of Gaby Frey and Scooby with any other dog handler in KZN. Gaby has travelled to Europe many times to compete in international championship shows and has excellent placings.
How do you compare these achievements with those who have become champions at local shows, where they compete against the same dogs virtually every weekend?
We know that as this team prepares itself for the Agility World Championships, they will have the blessings of many people on the South Coast. After all, Gaby is a child of Port Shepstone and a business person in the community. She has also been a member of Hibiscus Kennel Club for forty years, so probably trained most of the agility handlers on the South Coast.
Why are we not proud of our local sportsman? Why can you, sms texter, not wish her well?
JENNY ROBERTSON
