Further to my letter published in last week’s Herald and as a direct result of both the ward councillor and HCM allowing squatters/shebeens/drug distribution to take place from a property in Border Road, Sea Park for more than 30 months, we were again burgled on Tuesday, November 5. As well as tools and equipment being stolen, two cars were also vandalised.
We understand from HCM that the owner of the said property is being sued for outstanding rates and the property will possibly be auctioned off but with the slow wheels of justice how much longer must we wait?
The property is totally dilapidated, does not have approved plans for the entire structure and boasts an outbuilding with the roof half off and a newly renovated squatter shack. Water seeps throughout the stand and building rubble is frequently offloaded on the plot, making it an even worse eyesore.
By comparison I converted a double garage into a flatlet in Roodepoort a few years ago and was immediately challenged by the municipality to provide approved plans and all other requirements to make the structure legal.
It feels like we all live in one country but under two sets of rules, laws and standards.
