‘Council should set the example’

Who is going to fine or order the municipality to remove alien plants on its properties?

DEAR Editor,

I read the article regarding the alien threat in last week’s edition with great interest. If I remember correctly, your newspaper had something similar a couple of years ago, focusing more on the Admiralty Reserve strip.

Although I am not the world’s greatest authority on alien plants, I can tell you what is ‘alien’. If I’m not mistaken, that portion of land belongs the the local municipality. So who is going to fine them or give them an order to remove these alien plants? How do they expect to prevent the spread of alien plants, when most if not all municipal properties are overgrown with them?

Should they not not set the example and clear their own properties first? Maybe we can have some job creation supported by

provincial government or parliament?

For the benefit of the Hibiscus Coast ratepayers, would it be possible for the Herald to publish a few examples of these ‘unwanted’ or alien plants, maybe on a weekly basis, please?
