‘Parents need to mobilise’

Anyone can write an impressive CV, but not everyone can be a true leader.

DEAR Editor,-

Parents – it’s time we mobilise and take serious action to stop the problems at Jai Hind. The Department of Education needs to intervene and appoint a principal, not because he can do something for you or that he/she is your pal, but on his/her leadership qualities.

Someone who can build staff relations and not be afraid to immediately nip problems in the bud, as well as be bold enough to take a stand against wrongdoings and not practise double standards or be inconsistent or have hidden agendas.

We are sick and tired of all the bad publicity, unhappy teachers and terrible school environment for all. People constantly involved in staff conflicts must be moved to other schools, just like when the department recently intervened at Marburg Primary.

Our children get caught in all this conflict. The person appointed must not be biased or easily manipulated and not use the post as a short-term training ground for personal promotion like the last newly-appointed principal had done.

Be genuinely interested in taking Jai Hind School forward and steering this ship out of stormy waters. Don’t appoint someone who has selfish motives to carry out vendettas or create further camps and division.

Our children need professionals to teach them, people who have the best interests of our children at heart and who are genuine about carrying out their duties.

Anyone can write an impressive CV, but not everyone can be a true leader.

Discipline is out of control on every level at Jai Hind Primary and even general assistants address certain teachers disrespectfully in front of pupils.

When my child reported an incident of similar nature to me, I seriously thought he was exaggerating until I overheard two other children discussing the same incident. I was shocked!

What has happened to professional behaviour at all times, especially in front of our young innocent children?
