DEAR Editor,-
It is time for the minister of education to intervene. A very important point was made in last week’s Herald about a note with prospective parents’ names being circulated by a group of teachers at Jai Hind Primary’s School Governing Body (SGB) election.
I have been a witness to this, but was under the impression that it was normal practice. Do these teachers have children at Jai Hind Primary, taught by a maths teacher who has missed 100 maths lessons? Were they promised promotions or posts that would jeopardise the education of our children ,whose parents can barely make ends meet?
Reshuffle teachers who cause constant friction and restore the ethos and integrity of the school. Get rid of teachers who have forgotten their core function – teaching. If teachers are not trustworthy, how safe are our children at this controversial school?
What has happened to honesty and integrity? Anyone who questions wrongdoings or inconsistencies is threatened and bullied or unjustly reported on by colleagues or parents.
Where is the law that protects genuine teachers who are there for our children? Some teachers have been so unprofessional that they have resorted to bullying on social networks.
The material circulated was disgusting and insensitive and when my high school daughter showed me the contents of the cyber-bullying, I was horrified at the level of deterioration of professionalism at Jai Hind Primary.
We as parents are shocked that our children are taught by teachers of this calibre. Is the Department of Education (DOE) asleep through all these misdemeanors? A level 1 Maths teacher who misses 100 lessons is short-listed to run the school?
I’m sure there were officials from the department present, as well as union members to oversee that the process was free and fair. How much were they paid to look the other way or what were they promised to ensure this ‘famous’ teacher gets the principal’s post? Parents, take a stand!
Your children are going through the education system of Jai Hind Primary and how many of you can afford to move them to a private school?
The bad publicity, strong-arm tactics and lack of professionalism by certain teachers must be stopped now! Children spend the better part of the day at school and parents must ensure speedy departmental intervention.
Another local school has thousands of rands of school fees missing? The guilty clerk was asked to pay back a small portion and promoted from the school to department offices, plus granted a full bursary by the DOE to complete a career in teaching!
Can you beat this level of corruption? Who safeguards the rights of our children? As well as the parents and teachers who is genuine about their duties? Teachers working in this environment must definitely feel unsafe and unhappy.
Some of them don’t even address their colleagues professionally in front of pupils and we as parents need to stop this now and take action.
Take action – carry out a mass protest outside the school. Your child’s future lies in the hands of Jai Hind Primary. Fight for the rights of your children and demand intervention from the minister of education.
WORRIED PARENT
