Dear Editor,-
On September 23rd, accompanied by my husband, I went to renew my driver’s licence. I suffer from major back pain and cannot sit or stand in one place for long and have to pace.
We stood in the queue and I tried to pace, but space was a problem. I went equipped with two walking sticks and tried resting my weight on those, but my pain was too severe.
My husband fetched some pillows from the car and I used them to lie across three chairs. Within minutes a very well-spoken young gentleman came to my assistance. Whilst apologising to the people waiting in the queue, he took me into a room where the applications process was completed.
I was then requested to go to either counter one or three and both had queues. Out of nowhere, a polite woman appeared and called me to window two where we were attended to.
Since reading all the negative reports, I had been dreading the visit and went geared up with special pain medication, walking sticks and a back-brace, but the service and my experience was absolutely ‘first class’.
My sincere thank you to staff members at the licensing department and hope that upon reading this letter, staff members who deal with physical disabilities will realise that people with special needs desperately need help and do appreciate it.
