DEAR Editor:
It must be heartbreaking after you’ve convinced the bank that your business plan has potential and you have even mortgaged your family home to the hilt so you can fulfill your dream of running your own business; then be hit by Eskom’s bumblers and thieves and see everything fall apart and disappear – all except the bank loan that is.

You may have even employed a couple of assistants who will also now be without jobs.
No country can exist, let alone prosper without a reliable supply of electricity.
Now I read that the ‘minister of certain things’ is thinking about convening a meeting to look into the feasibility of forming a committee to establish a commission to evaluate the possibility of approving the use of sources of electricity other than Eskom’s generators.
And this after only 25 years, when they were warned that generators would need ongoing maintenance and would eventually have to be replaced.
We tend to lay the blame for this unforgivable state of affairs on the incompetence, corruption, laziness, nepotism, cadre deployment and zero maintenance (have I left anything out?) of people who fancy themselves to be politicians/managers.
But the real culprits are the electorate themselves who re-elect the same people time after time even though they must be aware that nothing will change.
Believing unbelievable promises again and again knowing deep down nothing will change for the better is futile, but music to a politician’s ear.
Almost a trillion rand of public money has reportedly been stolen from us, and this was made possible by the last ANC administration. (No idea how many zeros are in a trillion) – think what that amount of money could have paid for.
And still they are in power.
With politics nationally and internationally in the parlous state it’s in I feel this beautiful country and even the world is doomed.
Such a shame.
