OPINION: ‘Assisi Hospital should be brought to service again’

The government should hear the grievances of the communities that were raised.

DEAR Editor;

I refer to the protest that took place on the 15th and 16th of March 2021 at Oshabeni Location where the community mention on one of their demands that Assisi Hospital should be opened again.

It will be fair to re-open the hospital as it will benefit Oshabeni, Dweshula, St Faiths, Ophepheni, Umzumbe and Mabheleni communities.

The hospital was in operation until late 1998, I as a born-free and was born in Assisi Hospital feel that it will be better to re-open the hospital and bring it back to service.

It so disappointing to see elderly and very sick people of the communities travelling at midnight or early morning to seek medical attention at the regional hospital.

The government should hear the grievances of the communities that were raised.

It is so sad to lose a family member at night while waiting for the ambulance to only arrive perhaps four hours after the time of the call.

Gamalakhe and Turton have community hospitals which were built after the Assisi Hospital.

Why won’t the department of health revamp and re-open the hospital once again?

FRUSTRATED
