DEAR Editor;
Dune rehabilitation signs were put up at Margate north beach in Aloe road (near Duke Road).
At the back on the beach it was also closed up, so no one could come in from the front or back.
Unfortunately, the signs are made of plastic and the one sign had already been blown off by the wind.
It is a great idea and effort though.
Nature lovers like us do appreciate it, as lots of people like to drive up the dunes, not thinking about the dune vegetation and critters that have homes there.
What would also be nice is if they could put more logs, or even big rocks, in front of the dune at the parking spot as it’s still open there for people to drive up the dune.
About two years ago the municipality was so kind as to leave big logs there after a cleanup and they’ve overgrown very nicely on the side of the dune.
Now the other side just has to be closed up, so no one can drive up the dunes.
Thank you to whoever was responsible for the signs and for closing up the side of the beach.
It’s just a pity that some people don’t care about nature and won’t adhere to any signs or notices. We are just hoping for the best.
