DEAR Editor;
I went to the Southcoast Mall to take advantage of some special offers at Food Lover’s Market last Friday.
I had frittered away my time and eventually left in a rush. It was only when I was well into the store that a husband-and-wife couple remarked on the fact that I was not wearing a mask. Very embarrassed I realised my mistake.
I simply said that I had forgotten to put it on.
The woman said that she didn’t have a clean spare with her. However, her husband said that he did have a spare, brand new mask with him.
He promptly gave me the mask and refused my offer to pay for it, so I was spared the further embarrassment of having to explain my idleness to a store manager.
This was a very kind gesture which I appreciate greatly. It shouldn’t be necessary but it is especially noteworthy, at this time in South Africa, that my benefactors were black. I did not take their names but I would like them to know that their good turn made my day. Yabonga gakulu.
PAT MARSHALL
