DEAR Editor;
I travel twice a week from Hibberdene to Shelly Beach and back, and it seems whenever I get to Umzumbe an eight ton truck pulls out ahead of me with a load of quarry sand and fine stone.
Not one of these trucks have a cover over the loading bin, I always understood that this type of load has to be covered although the material is wet, it still spills out from the loading bin and the water and sand with fine stones hits a person’s car doing some damage.
And when these trucks hit the downhills, they do a speed of 100kph. So that sand and stone do a lot of damage to a vehicle’s paint work.
On Tuesday this week I was travelling to Shelly Beach again, and a truck was just ahead of me with his load of sand and stone, as I hit the downhill some sand and stone hit my car.
There is a large chip on my car’s windscreen, and I did keep my distance, but because of the speed these trucks do downhill that material hit a vehicle 200m behind it.
And I never travel too close behind another vehicle.
And in the past six years I have never seen a traffic cop pull one of these trucks off the road.
Wonder if there is any other road users that feel the same, and had the same experiences.
