Talk of the towns: Technology has taken over

Don’t waste time taking photos of everything to post on social media when you should be focusing on being there in the moment with people you cherish.

Have you ever just sat back and realised that in today’s day and age, everyone has been completely consumed by technology and cellphones rule most of our lives?

I’m not just talking about sitting at home spending hours scrolling through social media, but have you noticed how we cannot leave the house without our phones?

Yes, it is always important to have a phone on you in case of an emergency, but when we go out to spend time with friends or family, why do the phones come out and not just be kept in our pockets or bags?

I recently went to a movie theatre and witnessed numerous people sitting on their phones for almost the entire duration of the movie. I simply can’t come to terms as to why people would pay for tickets (which are always so expensive) when their attention is focused elsewhere.

Besides wasting money because of phones, these little devices have also been robbing people’s time from spending it with loved ones.

Whether you’re out on a date or at a family event, there’s always someone or a group of people who would choose to sit glued to their screens instead of investing time with those around them. Which truly is upsetting when you think about because you never know when someone’s time on Earth is up.

We’ve all been guilty of doing this at some point.

The next time you go out, maybe to a restaurant or even the beach for example, don’t touch your phone.

Don’t waste time taking photos of everything to post on social media when you should be focusing on being there in the moment with people you cherish.

Not everything you have or do should be shared on social media and your phone shouldn’t become a priority everywhere you go.

Push technology aside and start living in the moment and not on social media.
