Surprisingly wet weather for March

A short, sharp cloudburst over Scottburgh at midnight on the 14th and the heavy rain during the 27th compounded the wet conditions we have experienced.

Many folks are commenting that the weather has become as unpredictable and inconsistent as some of our national sports teams.

The rainfall figures that follow seems to suggest that this is certainly true about the weather, with March this year being surprisingly wet.

A short, sharp cloudburst over Scottburgh at midnight on the 14th and the heavy rain during the 27th compounded the wet conditions we have experienced.

The rainfall for March in Scottburgh is reflected in these figures: 4th – 11,5mm; 8th – 44mm; 14th – 79,5mm; 16th – 44mm; 23rd – 5mm; 27th – 85mm.

The total rainfall for the month was a significant 269 mm, considerably more than we normally record at the start of autumn. (Ironically, the violent electrical storm Scottburgh experienced on April 2 only produced 20mm, compared to the 134mm that fell in Amanzimtoti that night).

Comparative March rainfall figures over the last five years are as follows: 2021 – 107,5mm; 2020 – 58mm; 2019 – 93mm; 2018 – 86,5mm and 2017 – 121mm, in contrast to the 269mm of rain that fell this March.
