The province’s favourite half marathon was held in Scottburgh last Sunday. Running club members who were instrumental in clearing the road ahead of the race included Freeman Shange, Megan Muller, Sheldon Muller, Leahton Muller, Dana Daniels, Keaghan Daniels, Louis Nel and Sharon Cross.
Elouise Jones (also a member of the club) brought supplies of coldrinks, ice cream and chips to keep them going on a scorcher of a day. Also, when the chain saw was messing around, it was taken to Ushers where it was fixed free of charge when they heard what the club members were doing.
Pennington Conservancy will present a morning talk on ‘Edible weeds and other wild ideas’ by Nikki Brighton at Nkomba this Sunday, January 22 from 08:00 to 10:00.
Booking is essential as numbers are limited. Nikki is a writer, activist and locavore, well known especially in the Midlands for her passion for the environment, community and local living.
She lives a creative life and believes we should all eat more weeds.
R250 per person includes hands-on learning, follow up info and a donation to the Pennington Conservancy.

Operation adopt a room!
The management of Elders Voice has been brainstorming and trying to figure out why corporate companies and smaller companies won’t assist, even though the paperwork is in place.
There are about 100 bedrooms involved with the project, in different places including Pennington, Montclair and Umbilo.
A number of the rooms need revamping in order to feel like a special place for the ‘oldies’ to call home.
Elders Voice is asking 100 companies or families to partner with them, to adopt a room.

Please note that the rescue by Wendy Janssens and Cassie Weinberg was at the Umkomaas river mouth and not in Scottburgh.
