OPINION: People need good leaders

Citizens should be able to stand up for what they believe, despite party allegiance.

Political circumstance sometimes produces strange bedfellows. These developed circumstances sometimes show the true colours of a person, business or country. They can show up the reality of a situation, regardless of how it was portrayed or accepted allegiances.

I salute the members of the ruling party who, in a political policy voting meeting in Bloemfontein, voted with their hearts and sentiments and backed the DA. This was in Bloemfontein last week and naturally the party to which they initially swore allegiance, is very peeved off.

These rogue members have been identified and have been summarily dealt with because of their actions.
Where is the honour and respect among men today, when one can stand up for that which is for the benefit of all South Africans and not what is expected by their political party?

Shame on you for metering out discipline to these members for listening to their hearts and standing up for the watchword ‘Batho Pele’. Obviously, they feel the ruling party is not doing their job and merely being leaders of a bunch of sheep.
