Huge honour for Ugu karateka

It was a huge honour for KZN to host this year’s instalment of the tournament.

A group of karateka from the Ugu region recently had the honour of representing South Africa.

The prestigious AUSC Region 5 – UFAK WKF Karate Championships was held at Greyville Convention Centre from May 27 to 29.

It was a huge honour for KZN to host this year’s instalment of the tournament.

It was an action-packed weekend of karate of the highest calibre, which included a number from Ugu Region Karateka.

“It is due to many hours of hard work and training that our karateka were successful at this year’s tournament. We are extremely proud of their achievements,” said Ugu Karate chairman, sensei Coenie Vrey.

The following karateka obtained medals at the competition: Grant Selkon – bronze, kumite veterans; Tyler Hogan – bronze U21 kata and senior kata; Zak Vrey – silver cadet kumite; Wian de Beer – bronze cadet kumite; Blake Hogan – silver 12/13 kumite; Darshan Govender – bronze 12/13 kumite; Jayden Oosthuizen – bronze 10/11 kumite; Giancarlo Ferrante – silver 10/11 kumite.
