Four arrested for bottle store robbery
The suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon.
Four suspects were arrested by Port Shepstone police for robbing a bottle store in Umtentweni on Tuesday morning.
According to Port Shepstone police spokesperson, Captain Petros Mpinge, at least six other suspects who escaped are being sought by police.
Mpinge said the bottle store’s front door was smashed to gain entry, adding that at least 10 suspects wearing balaclavas and gloves jumped out of three vehicles and pointed a firearm at the security guard.
“The alarm was immediately activated when the door was broken. Personnel from a reputable security company were alerted to chase after the suspects who had fled in a VW Polo in the direction of Southport. The vehicle was stopped when the driver lost control and the vehicle overturned. Four men were then apprehended and handed over to SAPS members. Some of the stolen liquor was recovered. Other suspects who escaped are being sought by police,” said Mpinge.
He added that the suspects are expected to appear in the Port Shepstone Magistrate’s Court soon on a charge of business burglary, saying that no shots were fired.
Meanwhile security company, Lazer 911 said it’s thankful for its staff in the control room and the reaction officers for the swift response. Also, Ugu District Commissioner, Major General Sethenya Nxamagele confirmed that to be victorious against criminals, law enforcement agencies and SAPS need to continually work in closely.
