Surf compo showcases talent

The first heat took to the water at 7.30am and proceeded through the day at 20-minute intervals.

Umtentweni Beach was abuzz the past weekend with the hosting of the Tweni2’s Pairs Surfing competition.

The surfing competition was held on Saturday at Tweni Beach and saw surfers of all ages walking away with prizes. According to the organisers, a very chilly firm offshore breeze and favourable conditions greeted the quality field of surfers.

They added that the first heat took to the water at 7.30am and proceeded through the day at 20-minute intervals.

“Our local upcoming young team of Clay Turrell and Jordie Boschoff turned on their surfing talent and faired really well knocking out some of their more experienced mentors, but it was the Mooster team of local stalwarts Calvin Moore and Andrew Roosta Lange that progressed into the semis. They faced up against the Oberholzers, Frankie and son Koby, where Frankie at the ripe old age of 50 showed who is boss,” said the organisers.

Shane Sykes, who partnered with Chad du Toit from Team Bog Boys, could not match the surfing prowess of Team Avo Chicken made up of 2019 winner Brandon Jackson and Josh Redman.

The organisers said it is not often that the South Coast witnesses this type of world-class surfing talent. “We would like to thank the local community and businesses for their support of the event. Without the sponsorship received from the stakeholders this classic event would never have been possible,” said the organisers.
