Cluster games held to celebrate Youth Month
The purpose of the games was to encourage young people to invest more of their time in sports and educational programmes.
Encouraging young people to invest more of their time in sports, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) youth office recently held cluster games in celebration of Youth Month.
According to RNM Youth Council chairperson, Sphelele Cele, the games were hosted by the youth office together with the municipality’s Youth Committee. Cele told Fever that the committee consists of Ward and Proportional representative (PR) councillors that are under the age of 35 years.
“These were youth games that were hosted as part of Youth Month celebrations. The youth from different clusters of RNM participated. In Izongolweni, the games were held on June 16, and, in Gcilima they were held on June 25. In Gamalakhe, the cluster games were held on Sunday, June 26,” said Cele.
He added that the games included netball and soccer.
Cele said the purpose of the games was to encourage young people to invest more of their time in sports and educational programmes.
“They need to stay away from drug and substance abuse and as the youth council, we are happy to see so many young people participating in such programmes,” said Cele.
