Cleanup for Mandela Day in Umzinto

During the cleanup, the speaker of the Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, highlighted the importance of KZN leaders who lead by example and leaders who give back to the community.

Speaker of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, spent her 67 minutes of good deeds for Mandela Day cleaning up parts of Umdoni Municipality.

Boyce, together with Umdoni Municipality mayor, Sibongile Khathi, and Ugu District Municipality speaker of the council, Sizwe Ngcobo, conducted the cleanup at the Umzinto Bus and Taxi Rank, the Umzinto Central Business District (CBD), informal settlements and also painted Tholimfundo Primary School.

During the cleanup, the speaker of the Legislature, Nontembeko Boyce, highlighted the importance of KZN leaders who lead by example and leaders who give back to the community.

Meanwhile, Umdoni mayor, Sibongile Khathi said she was pleased that the Mandela Day programme was held under Umdoni muncipality.

Khathi said as the municipality, they always preach about working together to build better communities.

She said the collaboration of stakeholders illustrated on Mandela Dat was testimony that they are indeed working together for the benefit of the communities they serve.

“All activities undertaken in celebration of Nelson Mandela highlighted the greatest statesman’s legacy of dedication to the service of humanity.

Both the KZN Legislature and Umdoni municipality thanks all those who enthusiastically responded to the call of giving back to the less fortunate and vulnerable in honour of former President Nelson Mandela,” said Khathi.

Also, a number of organisations and ordinary South Coasters took their time on July 18 to spread kindness in the form of donations and volunteer work in celebration of Nelson Mandela’s birthday.
