‘Honouring Nelson Mandela’
Nelson Mandela was a South African anti-apartheid activist who served as the country's first black president from 1994 to 1999.
Several Ray Nkonyeni Municipality councillors painted the Betania Community Creche on Monday in celebration of Nelson Mandela Day.
The councillors, who were led by RNM mayor, Sikhumbuzo Zero Mqadi, also cleaned the community creche located in Ward 24.
According to the municipality, the work done for Nelson Mandela Day was an initiative by RNM and Njilo Consulting & Logistics.
It added that Mqadi was accompanied by RNM deputy mayor, Sibusiso Shange, chief whip of council, Thinta Teddy Hlophe, municipal manager Max Mbili, and some ward councillors.
In a recent statement, the Nelson Mandela Foundation said in 2009, when the United Nations General Assembly declared Nelson Mandela’s birthday (July 18), Nelson Mandela International Day, Madiba called on the people of the world to honour him by helping their communities.
