Two questioned in connection with water infrastructure vandalism
Practices such as vandalism will result in arrests and being dealt with by the full might of the law, said Ugu.
Margate police are investigating a case of theft and malicious damage to property following an incident of vandalism at Ugu District Municipality’s Ramsgate 8 sewer pump station last week.
Margate police spokesperson, Sergeant Sibu Ncane, said two men were recently taken in for questioning regarding a case of theft and malicious damage to property.
“They were released due to insufficient evidence,” said Ncane.

Ugu said in a recent statement that it condemns vandalism of critical infrastructure.
The municipality said it opened a case of vandalism with Margate Saps after the two suspects were apprehended.
Ugu said the incident follows a series of incidents where critical infrastructure was found vandalised, across the district.
“This is the second group or pair of suspects caught within this month. Vandalism of infrastructure will not be tolerated as it amounts to treason. Not only does it rob residents of their rights to better service but it has huge financial implications for the municipality.”

Ugu said it wants to send a strong message to all to refrain from vandalising critical infrastructure.
Practices such as vandalism will result in arrests and being dealt with by the full might of the law, said Ugu.
