Walk raises awareness on human trafficking

The organised walk took place around the world last Saturday.

Rhema South Coast Family Church, A21 International Organisation and the DA held a silent walk against human trafficking from Studio 202 in Margate last Saturday morning.

Some 150 people joined the Walk for Freedom, one of the largest human trafficking awareness events, which also took place around the world on the same day.

A21 raises crucial awareness about human trafficking on a global scale. It also puts key information about human trafficking and prevention directly into the hands of the public.

Also, it unifies advocates worldwide, creating a visible international stand against slavery and empowers individuals to take tangible action in their local communities.

Richard Stearn from Rhema South Coast Family Church said A21’s mission is to abolish slavery everywhere, forever.

“Our desire is to eradicate human trafficking once and for all. Right now, in the 21st century, men, women and children are being bought and sold like commodities every day. There’s no downplaying it; millions of people are being exploited around the world right now. This isn’t just a reality in faraway places; human trafficking is taking place in our very own cities and communities. We don’t share it to make people feel terrible; we share this to increase awareness and inspire people to be part of the solution,” said Richard.

Richard thanked all, young and old, marshalls, volunteers and authorities for supporting the walk in raising awareness on the South Coast.

If you suspect it, report it; the National Human Trafficking Hotline number is 0800 222 777.

Locals gather in their numbers to raise awareness on human trafficking.
