Report illegal firearms and hand in unwanted guns

The public is urged to report any illegal firearms at the nearest police station.

An urgent appeal is made to the public to hand in firearms in deceased estates if they do not wish to re-license them.

Police have an ongoing campaign to remove illegal and unwanted firearms as these can be used to commit serious and violent crime if they fall into the hands of criminals.

There is a designated firearms office at every police station and is ready to assist persons with these firearms.

If firearms are not re-licensed, they are then illegal firearms, for which a person can be arrested.

In addition, if firearms are stolen in a housebreaking and later recovered or used in a crime, they can be traced and legal implications and possible prosecution may result.

The public is urged to report any illegal firearms to the nearest police station.
