Woman’s decomposed body found in sugar cane field in Malangeni

According to police, she had been strangled to death.

Nokuthula Msani (38) was found dead in a sugar cane field in the Malangeni area, five days after she was reported missing.

Her brother Thabani Msani said the family last saw her on April 23 before she left home to meet up with a friend.

Msani said that his sister went to a local tavern with her friend, but was seen leaving with a man from the area, later the same evening.

When her family had not heard from her, they started searching for her.

“My mother got worried and asked the community and her friends help look for her. When a lead pointed to a particular man, we then contacted the police and he was taken in for questioning. That is when he confessed and he said he would point out where he had left her body.”

Induna Bhekithemba Mtolo points to the spot where Nokuthula Msani's body was found.

Msani said his sister had injuries on her face.
According to him, she was not in a relationship with the suspect, but they knew each other.

Ugu District police confirmed the incident and said a case of murder has been opened for investigation after the body of a woman was found in a sugar cane plantation near a local tavern.

“It is alleged that the family of the deceased who had opened a missing person’s enquiry brought the suspect to the police station. On questioning him, he revealed to police the location of the missing person’s body which was in a state of decomposition.”

According to the police, he had strangled her to death.

Sihle Dlamini has appeared in the Umzinto Magistrate’s Court on a charge of murder, and appeared in  court on May 7.

Induna Bhekithemba Mtolo said that this is not the first incident of this nature in the area.

Mtolo said that he has now asked the community to meet, so they can create a community forum to help fight crime.

“Crime has increased in the Malangeni area. When a family loses someone in this manner, crime statistics in the community and the country go up.”
