SPORTS and Specials made a racing start to the year with an enjoyable January breakfast run to a popular breakfast venue, the the Pitstop Sports Bar and Restaurant in Banana Beach.
There was an excellent turnout for the first monthly car run of the year, with the line-up of beautiful vehicles, classic and contemporary, including some interesting newcomers like the zippy Fiat X19, from the 1970s.
Pride of place, though, was Brett Bellenger’s new acquisition, a 1930 Austin Six. This eye-catching little car from yesteryear was in good running order and excellent condition. It wasn’t the fastest in the January line-up of mostly sporty models but it trundled along happily to Pitstop where it was quite the (aging) belle of the ball.
As usual, Pitstop impressed its visitors with both its service and its food, even when a huge gang of bikers descended on the restaurant and joined the car enthusiasts for breakfast.
This made for a festive get-together and, with all the bikes and cars parked outside, many a passer-by did a double take. Passing petrol heads just had to stop to admire the congregation of magnificent two- and four-wheeled wonders.
Sports and Specials is an informal group for car enthusiasts who dust the cobwebs off their beloved cars once a month and head off to some pleasant breakfast venue on a run.
