Smooth start for rugby Warriors
The players gelled well in the first pre-season friendly.
THE pre-season friendly against the Harlequins went off fairly well for the Riversmead South Coast Warriors at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground.
It was the first time last year’s captain Juan van den Berg played no role as a player; the big 8th man is now the coach.
He was quite impressed with the fitness of his players, considering the early stage of the season.
The game was played over four ‘chukkas’ and while the final score was 20-5 in favour of the home club, the scoreline is not really taken too seriously at this point in the season.
Warriors conceded a try in the first chukka, but scored four in the last one, which was where their superior conditioning became evident.
“It was a good opportunity to put our game plan into action, and to test some combinations,” said van den Berg.

There’s another friendly, against Maritzburg Collegians at Douglas Mitchell this Saturday, February 18 at 2.30pm.
The week after that it’s time for the popular Sevens, on Saturday, February 25.
And don’t forget about the Warriors golf day at Margate Country Club on March 4.
Serious rugby starts on Saturday, March 11 with the Usher Cup.
It will be run by Amangcesha Panthers (from Munster area) but held at Douglas Mitchell Sports Ground.
