Silver medal for bowler Pam Cole-Cook

KINGFISHER BOWLING ASSOCIATION

CONGRATULATIONS to Margate Bowling Club’s Pam Cole-Cook for winning the silver medal, narrowly missing gold, in the 2017 Warwick Bowls SA Senior Women’s Masters Singles Championship held at the Wanderers in Johannesburg last weekend.

Pam did herself, the district and her club proud, an amazing achievement. Congratulations to both Eddie Fann and Ellen Cawker who also took part in Senior Masters.

Well done to the inter-district women’s sides who were placed second overall at the Quadrangular held in Pietermaritzburg recently. Unfortunately, the men’s teams didn’t fare too well.

It would appear that there is still some confusion as to the rules for dual members and KBA competitions.

Dual members must play all KBA competitions and tournaments for their first call club.

A dual member may be permitted to enter all club competitions with the exception of the singles championship, which he/she may only enter at their first call club.

This is because the winner goes through to the Champion of Champions.

Thanks to everyone for the unprecedented 92 entries for the KBA Mixed Pairs due to be played early next month and thanks to all the clubs involved for making their greens available.

Will players please make sure they are familiar with the new times for reporting, trial ends and scheduled starting times in the new conditions of play.

KBA is also looking forward to hosting the Bowls South Africa Inter-Districts men’s and women’s B sides from 20 districts around the country.

Clubs used will be Scottburgh, The Bell, Riverside and Village.

BANNERS REST

SUPERSPAR Port Edward 2-bowl mixed trips was won by Brian and Pam Cole-Cook and Vi Pells, with runners-up Steve Rennie, Gino Alilovic and Hazel Delaney.

Second session went to Andreas van der Linde, Glen Allen and Amy Korner, and the 50/50 board to Jaye Russell.

Winners of the re-scheduled Tops Port Edward men’s pairs played last Sunday were Rod Phelps and Ron Camps.

Second place went to Dan Delaney and Ken Simms, and third Dice to Graaff and Peter Ziervogel. The 50/50 board went to John Keppler.

Saturday men’s league continues this Saturday (18th), with Banners Rest away at The Bell.

HIBBERDENE

THE Hibberdene Pharmacy drawn mixed trips played last Friday was won by Danie Human, Rentie Stevens and Joey Venter.

Second were Eddie Milne, Helene Oosthuizen and Nossie Patterson.

Session prize to Bez Bezuidenhout, Martin Rautenbach and Desiré van den Berg. The Valentine’s dinner was very well attended and as usual the food was five-star quality.

The next competition, the nominated mixed trips this Friday, is sponsored by Suzuki South Coast.

MARGATE BC

A WORKSHOP on roles and responsibilities will be presented by Barbara Iceton this Saturday (18th) at 10am.

Thanks to Green Chilli Restaurant and Takeaway for sponsoring the bowls competition held last Thursday.

Winners were Ron Canning, Lenie Geyer, Herman Scheinberg and Davey James.

The Mugg & Bean 2-4-2 open trips competition will be held on Friday, February 24 at 2pm.

MUNSTER

PIET Heunis and Rob Lyle won the Cow Shed men’s pairs last week, from Jokkie van Buuren and Mike Gower.

Second session went to Cliff Moakes and Phil Longden. Board to Tommie Dry.

Valentine’s trips was won by Mary Phelps, Hazel Delaney and Myra Doubell (Banners).

Runners-up were Elbie Snyman, Jeanie West and Phillipa Rowney (Port Edward).

Second session to Louise Dry, Pat Ruperto and Leone Bloem (Munster). Sportsman prize to Denise Brass, Linsey Humphries and Eileen van der Lith.

NOMADS

IT was a wonderful day for the Nomads at Margate Bowling Club last Saturday, with 39 players enjoying the Valentine’s outing.

First prize, sponsored by Orange River Wine Cellars, went to Derek McKechnie, Johnny Louch and Jean Bouverie.

Runners-up were Gae Gravell, Dave Slippers and Dina van der Walt. Third went to Neville Philpott, Manny Piquito and Vicky de Beer.

Sportsman’s prize to Kobus Faber, Cas Benade and Myra Doubell. Nearest to the jack was Neville Philpott; 50/50 to Rennie Geyer.

Lucky draw was won by Myra Doubell. Next outing is at Margate Country Club on March 12.

PORT EDWARD

WELL done to Dice Graaff, Gino Alilovic and Myra Doubell on winning the SuperSpar open trips.

Runners-up were Gawie Bosman, Mac McKenzie and Grant Walton. Session winners were Joe Ashworth, Glen Allen and Ann McAllister.

A huge thank you to everybody who contributed, supported and enjoyed the Affair of the Heart. Sundowner time with a change; this Friday at 4.30pm.

RIVERSIDE

ADRIANA Peens and Attie Ackerman won the Cupboard Value open pairs, followed by Anjie and Graham Gold.

Sessions went to Sandy and Mike Jeffries, Madge Nicolson and Sharon Smith.

Chicken and egg afternoon is today (16th).

SOUTHPORT

IN the South Coast Herald mixed 2-4-2 played last Thursday, Jane Massam and Rentie Stevens just pipped Peet and Susan van Rooyen.

Tickey and Denise Nel, the perennial winners of this tournament, had to settle for second session prize.

THE BELL

THE recent open trips, sponsored by Jaxx, Venture Inn Bottle Store and Sayidi Farm Store was won by Eddie Milne, Arthur Seager and Jan Venter.

Second place went to Michelle Vermeulen, Paul Mundell and Kevin Mullen. Session prize went to Renzo van Niekerk, Hew Hodgson and Phil Viljoen.

Captain’s Anchor sponsored mixed fours was won by Louw Vermeulen, Peet and Susan van Rooyen with Charmaine Vermeulen.

In second place were Alan Mandy, Cindy McMurtry, Adele Reader and Angela Moorhouse.

Session prize went to Dave Price, Tony Johnson, Astrid Jackson and Graham Wood.

The popular Egg and Chicken tabs in competition will take place this Sunday (19th).

TWENI

BARRY Delvin and Geoff Barbour won the South Coast Herald men’s pairs from runners-up Tony Korb and Dumisani Madlala.

Tabie Jonker and Rentie Stevens took the session prize.

Club’s mixed fours on February 21, in the morning.

VILLAGE

WINNERS of the Hibiscus Retirement Village’s men’s trips were John Sutton, Hein Bester and Bill Reed, followed by Dereck Schorn, Mike Ryan and Dennis Cox.

Sessions went to Ron Canning, Reg Sanders and Rennie Geyer, and to Steve Rennie, Aubrey Hood and John Keppler. Norman Isherwood won the 50/50.

Winners for Hibiscus Insurance Brokers mixed trips were John Sutton with Bill and Nelia Reed.

They were followed by Reg Sanders, Dave Garland and Dawn Ingle on a drawn card from Brian Douthwaite, Chrissie Chancellor and Hans van der Walt.

Sessions went to Denzil Massyn, Dawn Oehley and Gary Hess and to Dereck Schorn, Mike Ryan and Monica Middlewick. Ina Malan won the 50/50.
