‘Boxing’ clever for local CrossFit athletes
Their fitness and strength levels were put to the test.
AS a ‘box’, CrossFit Wild Coast travelled to compete in CrossFit Dbn West’s Speee league competition.
“We entered four teams in the scaled division. One of our teams, in Sam de Boer and Andrew Ramos, ended up winning the scaled division,” said owner Mitchell Anderson.
SOME CROSSFIT FUN FROM LAST YEAR: Spooky workout in Manaba
“CrossFit Wild Coast gave the ‘big boys’ in Durban a very good run for their money,” he said. “We sent four teams to compete, in total. There were three events and a final event for the top four teams.”

Sam and Andrew managed to place in the top four and were involved in the final event which consisted of two events – a benchmark workout named ‘Diane’ was one of those workouts.
As a team they had to complete 21-15-9, deadlifts at 80/60 and handstand push-ups. Sam and Andrew completed this in 01:59.
Mitchell explained how it works: “21-15-9 is the rep scheme, 80/60 is the weight that the deadlifts had to be. So, they did 21 deadlifts, 21 handstand push-ups, then 15 deadlifts and 15 handstand push-ups, then nine of the same. Competition really gets you out of your comfort zone and you always manage to achieve so much more than you thought you could.”
