Mandie rides Cape classic for Burry
It’s the highlight of the road cycling calendar and a few locals will be taking part in the ride.
MANDIE Stander, the mother of late Olympic cyclist Burry Stander, will join 35 000 cyclists for the 40th edition of the Cape Town Cycle Tour – Cape Argus on Sunday, March 12.
It’s is Mandie’s second Argus and this year she will be riding in remembrance of her beloved son, who would have turned 30 this year. “I want to do it for him,” she added.
She, together with Sally Kendall and other cyclists, will be joining the #iRide4Burry group to tackle the 109-km route around the Cape Peninsula.
“I look forward to the weekend,” said Mandie.

She also plans to place a stone at a memorial for her son on stage five – the tough legendary Groenlandberg climb – of the Absa Cape Epic.
Many will recall photographer Sven Martin’s famous photo that captured an ambitious Burry peddling up the hill during the 2012 Cape Epic, while the other cyclists pushed their bikes.
Burry, won the race with Christoph Sauser that year.
