Swiss hospitality for Southbroom golfers
It was the turn of several Swiss nationals to host the women's betterball Stableford competition.
LAST Wednesday’s alliance at Southbroom was won by Mary Carolan, Ursula Spoerri, Alexandra Huber and Janet Humphrey on 91 points on a count out from Mari Fielden, Heather Anderson, Regina Bosshart and Anita Landolf.
In third place with 87 points were Sharon Turnbull-Jackson, Helen Proctor, Joy Crutchfield and ‘casper’.
In the men’s section, Osie Osborne led the charge with Bob Clark, Paul Cole and Dave Neilson to win the fourball alliance by two points on 92.
Gavin Sole, VZ Greyling, Chris Huber and Heiner Spoerri were second with 90 points, followed by Marcus Luetolf, Joe Carolan, Geoff Skelton and Cleve Walker on 89.
Southbroom is home away from home for a growing number of European ‘swallows’ who head south to our sunny clime to escape the winter months.

And on Saturday it was the opportunity of several Swiss nationals to generously host the women’s betterball Stableford competition.
Despite the heat and high humidity Mari Fielden and Jean Corfe kept their cool to finish first with 47 points.
Mary Carolan and Margaret Sherratt were second with 45 points, followed by Rene Matthew and Janet Humphrey with 44 points.
The men also played a betterball Stableford competition.
Cleve Walker and Doug Butcher’s 51 points saw them in the winners’ seat, followed by Gary Purtell and Phil Verwey (50 points).
Bob Clark and Gerald Fitzgerald were third on 48 points followed by George Haswell and Roel Germs (47 points).
Results of Sunday’s par 3 individual Stableford competition are as follows: Maeve Mullane and Paul Cole tied on 20 points.

Jean Cole was third on 19 points after a count out from Sam Danforth followed by Julie Walker, Rene Mathew and Mari Fielden on 19 points.
